A few years ago John and I took the train to Norwich for a day out... we walked along by the river and eventually found the Cathedral... do look on the website of Norwich Cathedral to discover what a beautiful place it is... its also a very holy space... very silent... and we soon discovered that they had times of the day when the Cathedral was kept open for silent prayer... one could certainly sense the presence of people praying within that place with its depth of silence... and then as we later walked into a side chapel we saw this painting... and stood looking at it, wondering who the elderly man was... we guessed the artist was portraying him as holding the Christ Child, from the sense of awe and wonder in his face and the light which seemed to be shining from the baby...
At first I thought it must have been representing Joseph holding the baby... but I think it is actually meant to be Simeon, the elderly priest in the Temple when Mary and Joseph went to present the child and give thanks for his birth [ St Luke ch 2 v 25 - 35 ... ]
I'm so glad I found the photo I took of this painting, so that I could share it with you today: for today, 2nd February, is when we celebrate and remember this event... and remember the awe of Simeon as he realised how special this baby is, and forsaw how he would be a light to enlighten all people... I found this painting communicated that sense of wonder to me, and I hope it renews a sense of awe and wonder for you as well...Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-34719075528123417542024-02-02T16:11:00.000+00:002024-02-02T16:11:08.802+00:00Its a long long time now since the Covid Lockdowns prompted me to begin this daily picture on my blog... but I remember feeling very helpless when the lockdown began... asking myself "what on earth can I do now ? " We were in the middle of a series with 2 groups each week coming to do an overview of the Bible... and we were just about to begin studying the New Testament when we had to stop abruptly because of the Covid Pandemic... Then my question "whatever can I do now ? " was quickly answered by my thinking " well, I have several paintings and photos, perhaps I could just do a daily blog... and I soon discovered through emails from people following this blog, that a picture each day was helpful during that difficult time. So, what next ??
Well, sadly, we are still living in difficult times... I don't need to enumerate... you know for yourself what comes to mind... but we can still find hope... I have come across so many things recently that are examples of people finding hope even when they had almost given up... and perhaps you would like to read about these people as well ?
I do not expect to be able, this time, to give a daily picture... but... well, I will try and share some signs of hope now and then...
Lets begin with a book I found soon after my husband died last May : it contains 40 reflections in paintings and words on
"A Landscape of Grief" by Jenny Hawke... you can find it on the Leprosy Mission site / I bought it from their shop.
[ apologies : I have just taken a photo of the front cover so you would be able to find it more easily... but all I seem to be able to access from my album of recent photos are a series of photos entitled "memories" and I cannot find the photo I have just taked anywhere :( Clearly I need to learn more about digital things...]
On the off-chance that you might like to see a photo or two from this section I could find... I will upload what I can... here goes...

Well... thats a surprise... this is the photo of the book I was looking for before, and this time it was the only photo I could find !
Perhaps next time I will be able to access photos more accurately... lets hope soJanet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-1180184990235197782022-04-25T21:34:00.003+01:002022-04-28T21:51:47.719+01:00Wivenhoe Art Trail. 13th— 15 th May 2022<a href="Wivenhoe%20art%20trail.co.uk"></a>

have you everfound that coincidences can be quite odd ...like that bumblebee buzzing by just as Iwas writing about pollinators yesterday...?
well I've been thinking recently about calling my studio "wylde garden studio"
just for fun... and then this morning I was very surprised to see a large pheasant hop down from a tree branch and walk across our garden! All kinds of birds seem to love our garden, but Ive never seen anything quite so colourful before.
You never know what you might discover if you join in the Art Trail this May...
Look on the website for a preview...

Ravenna Mosaic c 6th Century AD
I just happened to pick up a copy of the Big Issue that was lying open on the kitchen table... and was shocked to read " The UK has led the world in destroying the natural environment"
[Sarah Wilson, quoting research by the Natural History Museum in 2020 ] Apparently our biodiversity losses are acellerating at an alarming speed !
Fortunately the writer continued by saying there are a few things you can easily do to help... imagine my smile as she then said the easiest is also the laziest : don't mow your lawn & if you can, plant an area for wild flowers, even if ts only a window-box... to help pollinators... at that moment a large bumblebee buzzed by... and I remembered how we are trying to grow wildflowers in a small part of our lawn down the garden, where we won't notice too much if the grass just grows untidily long and the wildflower seeds still don't grow again this year !
However, one thing she suggested was to help record wildlife...so Butterfly Count here I come again this year... though I've seen precious few butterflies so far... a lovely peacock butterfly and some large white buttrflies, rather blown around by the strong north winds that now afflict our garden, are all I've seen so far...Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-33366068097691906682022-04-13T18:11:00.000+01:002022-04-13T18:11:16.158+01:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg84xD9DaMQYum37uspXUFfAbRrSBa1lDvo1jk-771R1MwUDln8ppSiHWRMlg6oncq_81rHqNfk6vqo32POOIRrKD3GU-x14lNH-bU6KiHaqJ5OGyqj73KtIo2YzSPXd1Oy2zEV-E_pHtP4AL2W7VQC8UQX7OB0uLy_ByTra2Iriw4tGI-WvBkwszMrlg/s640/A6565729-23FE-48FE-BB22-6635AA429BD4.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="433" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg84xD9DaMQYum37uspXUFfAbRrSBa1lDvo1jk-771R1MwUDln8ppSiHWRMlg6oncq_81rHqNfk6vqo32POOIRrKD3GU-x14lNH-bU6KiHaqJ5OGyqj73KtIo2YzSPXd1Oy2zEV-E_pHtP4AL2W7VQC8UQX7OB0uLy_ByTra2Iriw4tGI-WvBkwszMrlg/s320/A6565729-23FE-48FE-BB22-6635AA429BD4.jpeg"/></a></div>

Marie Curie Nurses have designated today : 23rd March as a day of remembrance for all those who died of covid during the pandemic [23rd March this year is just 2 years after the first " lockdown" imposed by the uk government to help prevent the spread of the covid virus, so this is an apt day of remembrance for all those who died during this pandemic ] <a href="www..mariecurienurses.co.uk></a> ] in London there is the long long wall of remembrance with its hearts:One for each person who died,
and now people are planting daffodils, also in remembrance... what a lovely flower to remember someone :) ...daffodils always seem to bring joy right at the beginning of spring... a wonderful splash of colour, bringing a sense of hope out of grey wintry days... COlchester's AVenue of Remembrance is full of swathes of daffodils, all coming out just now beneath the trees... This evening's 7-7 meditative service at St Mary's, Wivenhoe will be in Remembrance... too :<a href="www.stmaryswivenhoe.co.uk"></a>

Yesterday (Sunday evening), at WIvenhoe St Mary's Holy Ground meditative service, we were asked to share our experiences of a memorable sunset...this painting is of the one I tried to describe... I felt words alone were not enough for the beauty of this sunset...or at least, not my words...and so I have found this painting to share with you, hoping I have been able to convey something of the joy this amazing sunset gave me...the wall of this house glowed golden with reflected light, and the leaves on all the trees were bathed in golden light as well...
IF, like me, you enjoy sunsets and love to see how their colours are portrayed inj paintings, then do search the internet for MOnet's houses of parliament sunsets... or the dramatic sunsets by Turner, whose vast glowing canvases are in the Tate gallery. I am wary of putting my own dramatic red sunsets on this blog, as some people might find them disturbing... I was once warned by the father of a friend of mine, when I was only just beginning to try painting in oils and he saw one I was secretly quite pleased with: a dramatic sunset seen across the sea while on holiday in cornwall... "Oh Janet, do be careful about painting sunsets like this... they will remind too many people of explosions during the war, you know..." I realise I am very fortunate that sunsets for me are signs of joy, and not at all fearful images... and I tend now to make sure I paint the more joyful golden glow that sometimes fulls the whole sky just before the red ball of the sun sinks low... I have seen this golden light shining miraculously through mist and fog turning them from dull grey into glowing light... someone asked me "Why paint fog this colour instead of grey... I mean, fog is always dull, grey and depressing, isnt it ?" Well, one obvious answer is another question: "does anyone want a dull grey, depressing painting to look at "? but, seriously, have you never noticed how the sun can shine right into fog & mist, especially when the light is at a lower angle during autumn or springtime, making it glow with golden light just after dawn or near sunset ? D o watch out for it, as it really makes such a transformation !
This nextpainting is of the early morning sun shining through the sea-mist as we watched from the ferry to the Isle of Wight crossing the Solent with the Needles on the horizon...

Now theres an idea... it could be interesting to write a childrens story of astronomers from a country [ like India, where archaeological evidence has been found of buildings used for astronomy...] making a similar journey & bringing in the cultural background from Asia where astrology is so much part of everyday decisions...it could be fascinating...<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhnkOKfX9xbAOK-WjGa954YjiBkis_LwQSy_ZpuPbn9FCiHUEG7aWEyjcCxdtoxgWwUaqPaEKOt8H-4bqZwiOhnfFl5lO6Cd_NkABD42lFAMKrO_WjeRX1SBXdILZaqfs5CxECA_B4jNME40TgO4wk38Nb4kskiSyBZoLwgFmuaYdCabKzAkjvb2huWDQ=s320" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="318" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhnkOKfX9xbAOK-WjGa954YjiBkis_LwQSy_ZpuPbn9FCiHUEG7aWEyjcCxdtoxgWwUaqPaEKOt8H-4bqZwiOhnfFl5lO6Cd_NkABD42lFAMKrO_WjeRX1SBXdILZaqfs5CxECA_B4jNME40TgO4wk38Nb4kskiSyBZoLwgFmuaYdCabKzAkjvb2huWDQ=s320"/></a></div>c. janet driverJanet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-29643219200408090102021-12-18T20:44:00.000+00:002021-12-18T20:44:07.653+00:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiHtHn5hX4Eh0NTIWumJtmTvjnoZsGejerOCY_mCMmi9uKkq3TTCOqwXibRSfarpb3qquYj-KOfb4GBaxDH0qFaP7NTjJnNd6CkM2wKKPkPWnte0-Asip-y0YD-d1bWlpeH1qI74xnnI1jX0hov9dV8jU-QTx1d2O9OiD0_TOpuvnDldEEVAGPZKQ3PgQ=s2634" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="2634" data-original-width="1266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiHtHn5hX4Eh0NTIWumJtmTvjnoZsGejerOCY_mCMmi9uKkq3TTCOqwXibRSfarpb3qquYj-KOfb4GBaxDH0qFaP7NTjJnNd6CkM2wKKPkPWnte0-Asip-y0YD-d1bWlpeH1qI74xnnI1jX0hov9dV8jU-QTx1d2O9OiD0_TOpuvnDldEEVAGPZKQ3PgQ=s320"/></a></div>
<i>c.janet driver "Darfur Madonna" was painted well over 10 years go, before we retired from our parish in Tooting...an area of mainly people of African or Afro-Caribbean origins... it was painted as a prayer-painting for the people of the Sudan, particularly the women and young children who, like this lady, had had to flee from their homes as villages were burnt down and all vegetable crops destroyed by rebel fighters... sound familiar ? yes, sadly South Sudan has suffered intermittently during this whole decade and is once more inthe news as their government seeks to restore law and order... fighting... drought...devastating floods... famine... and now covid... this "Darfur Madonna" sadly still stands as a prayer-painting for those who have survived through aid agencies support...hoping to help rebuild lives into the new year and beyond...</i>Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-7234166579412665642021-11-17T17:53:00.000+00:002021-11-17T17:53:32.518+00:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyzzwX9tfyHlVCWmAV_ftZL_mNWQuJSavaOL0qxTUDE8j10SFKWKwvgdmZnDt_bgUdG-baRC_xclpjX5VSlEjVnG_OB-bnuQUtaJ8oNZaa_SV8JsYmgobiLAaH67Owm5TnJt7zuOjqYXTo/s320/731C2F26-71F8-4A8C-8B29-444CA43AEFAF.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="177" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyzzwX9tfyHlVCWmAV_ftZL_mNWQuJSavaOL0qxTUDE8j10SFKWKwvgdmZnDt_bgUdG-baRC_xclpjX5VSlEjVnG_OB-bnuQUtaJ8oNZaa_SV8JsYmgobiLAaH67Owm5TnJt7zuOjqYXTo/s320/731C2F26-71F8-4A8C-8B29-444CA43AEFAF.jpeg"/></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG9OR9lGBzx7D0H0Wz4oq3lXSeluAqumZ88qf_JAvROUMI2KS4S2KHjqO6nDhYJg3kkIEkL039wSLfazgAhYH4hhL-cxRv_LF25Q8Klv8he5Oamxr6GBn5-3IZdOHLYWyrKVNNmgDRE2IF/s320/80138C90-96F3-493F-A345-C2C326A6A5C8.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG9OR9lGBzx7D0H0Wz4oq3lXSeluAqumZ88qf_JAvROUMI2KS4S2KHjqO6nDhYJg3kkIEkL039wSLfazgAhYH4hhL-cxRv_LF25Q8Klv8he5Oamxr6GBn5-3IZdOHLYWyrKVNNmgDRE2IF/s320/80138C90-96F3-493F-A345-C2C326A6A5C8.jpeg"/></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf95VbF6qilNRO2vAx4kd_g8rDo-hOV8rRd3wsMMv61U4sLCtxMqQKNKKYNRGwKtTBXba5VIE9crhXsip1Zb1A3ydFZN5dp49NSYd2Rw0l-bOF1LRd853pkSLY4r8lYGrIKpHNWNhKxeJd/s320/E703E9CB-17C7-4AA8-99AF-B7C85A286959.png" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="316" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjf95VbF6qilNRO2vAx4kd_g8rDo-hOV8rRd3wsMMv61U4sLCtxMqQKNKKYNRGwKtTBXba5VIE9crhXsip1Zb1A3ydFZN5dp49NSYd2Rw0l-bOF1LRd853pkSLY4r8lYGrIKpHNWNhKxeJd/s320/E703E9CB-17C7-4AA8-99AF-B7C85A286959.png"/></a></div>
oops... I nearly forgot the poppy this year... and somehow a photo from our garden earlier in the spring has snuck in there by mistake... <i>but then I rather like that pink and white bud... so I will leave it there as it does look really peaceful and I recon anything that reminds us of peace at this time of year is really vital ! in fact I still dream of a waterfall of white peace poppies to join our amazing display of red poppies...just in case we forget that after the horrors of WW 11 there was a real desire to work for peace... at least, that's what I remember from my childhood after the war...

these beautiful bright pink flowers allways cheer up the dull dampness of November! DOes anyone know what they are called ? I found the bulbs abandoned and almost rotted away down our garden, planted them, and now they are beginning to come up in surprising places, so I guess the birds must like their seeds and drop them after they've been through their digestive systems...all part of the "rewilding' process I assume :) Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-44415548526082168752021-10-15T11:09:00.001+01:002021-10-15T11:14:46.042+01:00You may have seen in this week's Church Times the news of Chester Cathedral's new exhibition, looking at paintings and sculptures of Christ from various world cultures...go to churchtimes.co.uk & click on "God of all people" at the top... as I cannot download these onto my blog...instead I will show you my own painting done some years ago while we were in TOoting with a congregation of mainly people of AFrican or CAribbean origins...

All the recent news about the IPCC report has prompted me to show you more photos of my stained glass window on Climate Change. Thinking back now to when it was commissioned a few years ago, it seems amazing how much of what this window predicted has already come true [from the Boxing- Day Tsunami to all the recent wild fires & flooding] and yet we are so slow in responding to this crisis ! A fter all the protests, why is our government so slow ?
Why are we still subsidising fossil fuel companies instead of switching to green options?
The really good news is that scientists have been beavering away & working on the technologies necessary for us to move forward...we can do this... if only we get going quickly... so what is holding us back??

Painting by RS Thomas, an Indian Artist [from a USPG booklet : The Life of Christ by an Indian artist]
I find this painting conveys the Transfiguration [ Luke 9 v 28f ] so well... reminding us of the rainbow that brings hope after a storm
[ if you can see this in the webpage view, then look down the labels on the right hand side, searching for "rainbow"; click on that and you will be able to see the lovely rainbow photo by Katrina Kerr... a double rainbow over the river...Wow! ]

I find it very telling that this narrative about Mary Magdalene does not end when she finally recognises the Risen Christ, but continues with her going to tell the disciples... and although John does not tell us their reaction, it isinteresting that this artist some centuries later, imagines them... well, as you can see the expressions on their faces, finding it impossible to believe...and I am not surprised! However, I do find myself wondering whether they therefore found it easier by that evening to accept & recognise him for themselves because of what she had told them...John 20 v 1-23.Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-11498076750222839282021-07-16T12:05:00.001+01:002021-07-16T12:18:03.222+01:00Butterfly Conservation : annual survey <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRk65D9WLPqfTzKU-2p2CN3i-SV9h3UlWrXnxErCre4ke9pJ5qKpCs5Su7NJ-R3-OzRggBHwji-KuoOiaL5A1RH8BTZHqPWrYeGWUlA_IAyVf1FXmksxQedCGanshq6F6b57D9uW_Qjmnk/s300/5DB54ED3-DCE5-47EC-BFC2-38835A1F265C.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="298" data-original-width="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRk65D9WLPqfTzKU-2p2CN3i-SV9h3UlWrXnxErCre4ke9pJ5qKpCs5Su7NJ-R3-OzRggBHwji-KuoOiaL5A1RH8BTZHqPWrYeGWUlA_IAyVf1FXmksxQedCGanshq6F6b57D9uW_Qjmnk/s320/5DB54ED3-DCE5-47EC-BFC2-38835A1F265C.jpeg"/></a></div> Blue Morpho : Surprising Stillness (oil on canvas) . c. Its that time of year again when throughout the UK everyone who feels they can spend 15mins out in their garden or a nearby park... wherever they might see some butterflies... is asked to volunteer their time, sit and count the butterflies they see, adding them to the annual survey... see www.butterflyconservation.co.uk for details of these three weeks of "citizen science" that is so easy to join in...just 15 mins a day for three weeks, sitting in a pleasant spot, quietly waching for butterflies...do join in !Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-41708052849956355152021-07-06T21:02:00.002+01:002021-07-06T21:02:21.320+01:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi839qsf1UbSLN-dS3K7-sf9Pv287zw9b6yMmT2418WMhCFE38EM7SoYbw44AxUIKlMHnCvXgvZIh6a3lbcPdjCLWjTxyoQXb_hRfKWWKeOR2gzwDYD_wBZtvdgjCEx2P8cewjoczTmOe8S/s640/CA1D254E-C73A-4563-BBE7-98E443257E00.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="563" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi839qsf1UbSLN-dS3K7-sf9Pv287zw9b6yMmT2418WMhCFE38EM7SoYbw44AxUIKlMHnCvXgvZIh6a3lbcPdjCLWjTxyoQXb_hRfKWWKeOR2gzwDYD_wBZtvdgjCEx2P8cewjoczTmOe8S/s320/CA1D254E-C73A-4563-BBE7-98E443257E00.jpeg"/></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglts_Xj2OIXXvwpLapxZflVOvSqSLQc-2iopbFFVaLID-5GJtra7Nv-pvIqcx7z3-qjRdfI667mZ0s1OUGYJ0sXy9w9d8D98gvJyYq8TaeyvHvkSz0sQ_9CFQl8eADWkvCspEtZjtsZKDW/s640/3A061CDE-2CC2-423E-84F2-29B99392F2A6.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="485" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglts_Xj2OIXXvwpLapxZflVOvSqSLQc-2iopbFFVaLID-5GJtra7Nv-pvIqcx7z3-qjRdfI667mZ0s1OUGYJ0sXy9w9d8D98gvJyYq8TaeyvHvkSz0sQ_9CFQl8eADWkvCspEtZjtsZKDW/s320/3A061CDE-2CC2-423E-84F2-29B99392F2A6.jpeg"/></a></div>
We always look forward to July, when this amasing tree is covered in cascading yellow blossom... it reminds me of "Broom", but that I remember as a bush growing up on the cliffs by the sea... I have never before seen it as such a large tree... its really beautiful just now.Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-58515124723803145202021-06-28T12:31:00.000+01:002021-06-28T12:31:46.312+01:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOR1qodnqC7JlFUbZ5D8c9EWXli7mLkFW3MwJFpd4fz-ISSRznfeldutFJJMaIUVG2-bra6p-HT9PakHkIX5RDt9ih6v0_6Hiw112Q3FoDck3iSgQLjvUqnfrG5H_nmGKNrmjmK99roYbO/s640/8D50741A-E098-4AA3-9E9A-8452A3ECFF7A.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOR1qodnqC7JlFUbZ5D8c9EWXli7mLkFW3MwJFpd4fz-ISSRznfeldutFJJMaIUVG2-bra6p-HT9PakHkIX5RDt9ih6v0_6Hiw112Q3FoDck3iSgQLjvUqnfrG5H_nmGKNrmjmK99roYbO/s320/8D50741A-E098-4AA3-9E9A-8452A3ECFF7A.jpeg"/></a></div>
<i></i>artist :Jung sun kim : St Mark 5 v 21f... Jairus daughter & the woman healed of her constant bleeding...
the artist has caught the moment when this poor woman had just managed to touch Jesus' garment as he walked through the crowd with Jairus... can you sense the fast-paced movement and feel her desperate need of healing as you look at her hand which almost seems to flow alongside Jesus as part of his hemline.... Clearly it seemed absurd to try & find out who had actually touched him & received healing...there were just too many people milling around...anyone could have touched him ! But then Jesus must have been aware how this person needed to be recognised and accepted...otherwise everyone would have continued to despise her because of her illness... and she would continue to feel she was of no worth as a person... her bleeding had stopped at last... she knew she had been physically healed...but that was only the half of it... he needed to help her see she was totally healed,in body, mind & spirit, through her own daring action. In the midst of the rush to reach Jairus daughter before she died, he was able to take the time to restore this woman...& I feel the artist has really shown us this hurried moment when time must have stood still for her...when she had the courage to admit who she was... " a moment in and out of time" [TS Eliot : Four Quartets ]"Who touched me ?"..."Daughter, your faith has made you whole, go in peace..."Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-59020948350867381772021-06-14T20:34:00.000+01:002021-06-14T20:34:12.400+01:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkTnYiEtW7H0k6FEuJTDAQc0XGaxOyTUE50qXby7IJ9ln4dd1W-gUcUmcBK0yVf60Q7PKajU6ElL3cMWlhaRd2ai3NA7VHUcbQIbiqjLeUrw5q6TkSPDOjrIOK_E2DdMjgL9hiVzfR7vSU/s640/95F8DAE3-3B92-4522-8ABE-A1D53633DE53.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="627" data-original-width="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkTnYiEtW7H0k6FEuJTDAQc0XGaxOyTUE50qXby7IJ9ln4dd1W-gUcUmcBK0yVf60Q7PKajU6ElL3cMWlhaRd2ai3NA7VHUcbQIbiqjLeUrw5q6TkSPDOjrIOK_E2DdMjgL9hiVzfR7vSU/s320/95F8DAE3-3B92-4522-8ABE-A1D53633DE53.jpeg"/></a></div>Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6866779262378657832.post-4346630455437176242021-06-03T18:13:00.000+01:002021-06-03T18:13:57.109+01:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8oYk9eviq0pgkxdvPHMQVbSKb4Zwhy7DtB_mZD6BziV1_OWlIB6f32sBthgxDyf61YYpq6wOWcFeqQXQkhtSFrFsIPohvztwfUwnDDRFRzHWgmnp8Ey5tZLhqP42aougcZ58NaONZ1LCi/s320/2ECC75F6-2A18-41B3-A4BC-C9906A0F8F0D.jpeg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8oYk9eviq0pgkxdvPHMQVbSKb4Zwhy7DtB_mZD6BziV1_OWlIB6f32sBthgxDyf61YYpq6wOWcFeqQXQkhtSFrFsIPohvztwfUwnDDRFRzHWgmnp8Ey5tZLhqP42aougcZ58NaONZ1LCi/s320/2ECC75F6-2A18-41B3-A4BC-C9906A0F8F0D.jpeg"/></a></div>
What is it they say about weeds ? ...that they are merely a flower in the wrong place... well I suppose that seems right when you see a dandelion in the middle of a grassy lawn... unless you feel the joy of seeing a sudden splash of deep yellow overrides this ? I know so little about gardening, having only had my own garden since retirement... so often I find muself wondering... surprised by the beautiful deep blue of these small flowers: ooo how lovely, was my first thought, followed by oh perhaps its a weed ? Does anyone recognise this ? With all the rain this spring these bushy, thick-stemmed plants have been emerging everywhere... reminding me of a few years ago when some rather pretty pink flowers with lovely red-stemmed leaves began to appear... I thought they looked lovely & left them... not realising they would seed everywhere... and when I discovered someone had pulled a few of these plants up, leaving them in a small heap right in the middle of the front path... I finally got the message!!Janet Driverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13718565198954383165noreply@blogger.com0
